Types of Abuse and Neglect

The Care Act 2014 outlines ten specific categories of abuse and neglect that adults at risk may experience.

These categories include:

Neglect: Failing to provide necessary care and support.
Self-neglect: Individuals not taking care of themselves.
Physical abuse: Any act causing bodily harm.
Sexual abuse: Non-consensual sexual acts.
Psychological or emotional abuse: Behaviors causing psychological trauma.
Financial abuse: Taking advantage of someone's finances.
Organisational abuse: Mistreatment or neglect by an organization.
Discriminatory abuse: Unequal treatment based on characteristics.
Modern slavery: Exploitation of individuals.
Domestic abuse: Violence or abuse between intimate partners or family members.
