What is safeguarding adults?

What is safeguardingSafeguarding means protecting a person's right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

Safeguarding adults means protecting a person who is over the age of 18.

Safeguarding is about people and organisations working together. In Cumbria, we want to reduce the risks of abuse or neglect happening and make sure the person's views, wishes, feelings and beliefs are a key part of deciding on any action. It is important that a person's wellbeing is promoted at all times.

'Abuse' is when someone does something to you that you do not like and you want to stop.

'Neglect' is when you are not being given the care and support that you need to live your life.

Communications Leads from across the partnership have worked together to produce a short video which aims to raise awareness of safeguarding, types of abuse and neglect and what to do if you are worried about a person.

The illustrated video aims to explain safeguarding using easy to understand language.  The video will be available on our website and will be a useful tool to increase and improve awareness of safeguarding.

The video also provides an overview of what CSAB do, our objectives and the partner organisations we work with.
